Merkel was booed after announcing new restrictive measures

Germany will introduce a fourth package of amendments to the law on the epidemiological protection of the population. They were announced by German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday, April 16, but members of the opposition interrupted the politician’s speech by shouting.

It is specified that they were indignant about the tightening of restrictions, according to which a curfew is introduced in the country. If the number of sick people increases to 100 people per 100,000 population in a week, the authorities will introduce new restrictive measures. Employees of various companies will provide one or two coronavirus tests a week.

Previously, such decisions were made by the federal states.

“The situation is serious and we all have to take it seriously. The third wave has taken over the country, the researchers at the Robert Koch Institute say, the indicators of the infection rate, above all the number of intensive care beds occupied,” Merkel said. The meeting was broadcast by Bild.

According to her, the oppositionists consider the strengthening of lockdown as a violation of the rights and freedoms of citizens, but this measure is not new: it is in the current legislation on the epidemiological protection, emphasized the politician.

After that, there was an uproar in the hall. However, Merkel said that after a year of living with the pandemic, it has become clear that half-measures are not so effective. “The virus does not forgive hesitation and does not negotiate. It understands only one language: the language of determination,” the chancellor concluded.

On April 13, Move Politics Campact activists brought coffins to the office of Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, thus trying to draw the attention of the authorities to the worsening coronavirus situation in the country.
