German Chancellor Angela Merkel will hold a meeting with former presidential candidate of Byelorussia Svetlana Tikhanovskaya on October 6 in Berlin. This was stated by deputy official representative of the Cabinet of Ministers of Germany Ulrike Demmer in Berlin on October 2.
“On Tuesday, October 6, Chancellor will hold a meeting with Svetlana Tikhanovskaya at 3:00 p.m. The focus will be on the situation in Belarus, which is developing after the presidential election”, – said Demmer.
She noted that after the meeting there will be no press conference. Speaking about the status of Tikhanovskaya in these talks, Demmer calls her “presidential candidate”.
Besides, on October 7 negotiations with Tikhanovskaya will be held by the head of German Foreign Ministry Heiko Maas.
Several days ago Merkel stated that Germany did not recognize election of Alexander Lukashenko as the president of Byelorussia.
On September 29, Tikhanovskaya met with French President Emmanuel Macron and suggested holding talks on the organization of new presidential elections in the republic on the OSCE platform.
Belarusian presidential elections were held on August 9. According to the CEC, Lukashenko won with 80.1% of the vote. Since then, protests by dissenters have continued in the country, and Tikhanovskaya and most of her colleagues have left the republic.
