Milan authorities opened a hospital at the Fiera Milano Exhibition Center

Milan authorities have opened a hospital in one of the largest exhibition centers in Italy, Fiera Milano. The building was converted into a medical facility in 10 days, the agency ANSA reported on Tuesday, May 31.

According to the head of the Milan polyclinic Ezio Belleri, the building houses “the largest intensive care unit in Italy. The hospital will be the main instrument in the fight against coronavirus, he added.

It will employ 200 doctors, 500 nurses and 200 other health workers. The creation of the hospital is the result of “tremendous effort,” said Belleri.

According to the international statistical bureau Worldometer, the number of cases of infection with the new type of coronavirus reached over 101 thousand people in Italy by March 31, 11.5 thousand died. The country is on the second place in terms of the infection rate after the United States.
