NASA will hit an asteroid flying to Earth

The American National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is preparing to strike a kinetic blow to an asteroid flying to Earth. This was reported by Science Alert.

The asteroid does not threaten the planet, but the blow, with the help of which experts will change the trajectory of its flight, will be training for the system of protection of the planet from larger asteroids.

The mission to intercept the asteroid is called DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test). Due to the situation with the spread of coronavirus infection COVID-19 NASA has already canceled several launches, but the next launch is scheduled for July 22, 2021.

March 4 it was reported that the potentially dangerous asteroid will approach Earth in late April. The asteroid number 52768 (1998 OR2) will approach our planet closest on April 29. According to experts, it will be located 6.29 million km from Earth. This is 16 times the distance from Earth to the Moon.
