New York Central Park will have a field hospital

In the center of New York City began building a field hospital because of the coronavirus epidemic in the United States.

The humanitarian Christian organization Samaritan’s Purse (Samaritan’s Purse) started the construction of the hospital and it will be located in Central Park. In front of The Mount Sinai clinic on Sunday, March 29, white tents have already appeared. The NGO Samaritan’s Purse will be open 24 hours a day. The infirmary is expected to be completed within the next few days.

According to team leader Eliot Tenpenny, the field hospital will have 68 beds, 10 of which are equipped for intensive care and resuscitation, as well as artificial ventilation devices. In this way, the field hospital will be able to accommodate up to 10 patients “in very serious condition”. The field hospital will be able to employ 60-70 physicians. If necessary, the hospital can be enlarged.

Tenpenny said that a similar field hospital was already installed in Cremona, Italy, two weeks ago. It’s been decided to apply the experience in New York.

New York is currently at the epicenter of the COVID-19 epidemic in the United States. The coronavirus in the metropolis has already killed 678 people, 32 308 cases in total. City authorities are preparing for the peak of the epidemic, which, according to experts, will occur in three weeks. The authorities are also afraid that hospitals will not cope with the influx of patients, so engineering troops arrived in New York to build additional hospitals. According to the agency, one of the centers for the treatment of patients from coronavirus will be a Jacob Javits Expocenter, equipped by the military for the hospital. It is also expected that March 30 in New York will arrive medical ship Comfort for 1 thousand beds, which will send patients who are not sick with coronavirus.
