North Korean archaeologists discovered ancient tombs in South Hwanghae Province. There were gold jewelry, frescoes and various metal objects, which are 1.5 thousand years old. The findings once again proved that South Hwanghae was a cultural center during the Goguryeo Dynasty. Earlier similar tombs were found in the north of the province.
In 2004, “Goguryeo Tombs Complex” was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
