British law enforcement officials have detained a nurse on suspicion of killing eight babies and attempting to kill nine newborns, The Guardian reports Tuesday, November 10.

Lucy Letby, 30, is cited in a case investigating at least 17 infant deaths at a hospital in Chester, Cheshire County, between June 2015 and June 2016. Her trail was helped by doctors who found uncharacteristic injuries on the bodies of the babies.

Earlier Letby was arrested twice, in July 2018 and June 2019. She was released after bail was paid, but was arrested again on November 10. She is scheduled to be formally charged at the court session on November 12.

“Today, as part of our ongoing investigations, a medical officer was re-arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of eight babies and attempted murder of nine infants. The woman is currently in custody and is assisting officers in the investigation,” Chief Inspector Paul Hughes said.
