U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held telephone talks to discuss arms control. This was reported in a statement published on May 6 on the website of the U.S. Department of State.
“The Secretary and the Secretary of State also discussed a number of bilateral issues of mutual interest, including global efforts to respond to the spread of COVID-19,” the report said.
On April 17, Lavrov and Pompeo agreed during a telephone conversation to intensify dialogue on arms limitation and non-proliferation.
The START Treaty was signed in 2010. It remains the only treaty in force between Russia and the United States on arms limitation. The agreement expires in February 2021.
