Pompeo’s trip to Europe canceled to secure transfer of power

The U.S. State Department has canceled Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s trip to Europe to ensure a peaceful transition of power to the new administration. The information was published Tuesday, Jan. 12, on the department’s official website.

“We expect the new administration to come up with a plan that identifies personnel officials who will remain in positions of authority on an ongoing basis until the Senate confirmation process for new officials is completed. As a result, we are canceling all planned travel for this week, including the Secretary of State’s trip to Europe,” the statement said.
