The oldest member of the Japanese imperial family, Princess Yuriko Mikasa, has been hospitalized in a Tokyo hospital. This was reported by agency Kiodo.
Doctors said the diagnosis was paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. The 97-year-old patient’s condition is not assessed as serious, she will stay in hospital for about a week.
In the fall of 2020, the princess was also hospitalized with pneumonia and heart failure. A member of the imperial family was discharged two weeks later.
The princess is an aunt to the honorable Emperor Akihito of Japan and a great-aunt to the current Emperor Naruhito.
Emperor Akihito of Japan retired on April 30, 2019; Prince Naruhito ascended to the throne the next day.
