Quality photos of Van Gogh and Napoleon: neural networks reconstructed the appearance of historical figures from their portraits

Reddit user @basu68 got interested in creation of photorealistic portraits of famous historical figures of the past centuries. To do this, he feeds neural networks with preserved images of these people (mostly paintings, less often – photos in poor quality). Unfortunately, GAN-networks cannot create clothes, so the author left them from the original paintings.

This is probably what Vincent Van Gogh looked like. The photo is based on his self-portraits, the only surviving photograph of the artist as 19 years old, and a portrait created by his friend John Peter Russell.
