Real Madrid and Juventus could face suspension from European competitions for their participation in the Super League.
Earlier UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin stated that clubs in the Superleague will not be excommunicated from the Champions League this season because of commitments to television. However, the organization may decide to punish the organizers of the “revolt” – Real Madrid and Juventus.
According to the publication As, the Madrid and Turin clubs, which have not yet withdrawn from the project, could receive serious penalties. A number of members of the UEFA executive committee intend to push for the exclusion of these teams from the European competition for a period of one season. However, their opinion is not shared by all, because in this case not only the teams, but the fans and the players themselves will suffer. The final decision must be made by UEFA on April 23.
The creation of the Super League was announced on April 19. The new project included 12 clubs: Real Madrid, Juventus, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham. However, due to the threat of sanctions from UEFA and FIFA and the discontent of fans and players of a number of clubs, the Super League was suspended on April 21.
