Roman Protasevich was transferred to house arrest

Former editor in chief of the banned in Belarus Telegram-channel NEXTA Roman Protasevich was transferred to house arrest. His father Dmitri Protasevich told the BBC on June 25.

Protasevich’s companion, the Russian citizen Sofia Sapega, was also transferred to house arrest.

“It is difficult for me to comment on the actions of the authorities, what their goals are. Maybe he is involved in some kind of political game,” commented Protasevich Sr.

Dmitry Protasevich added that the charges against his son and his companion have not been dropped.

“The lawyer says nothing, the authorities say nothing. If they changed the measure of restraint, it is an improvement in their living conditions. Otherwise, what will happen next is unknown,” added the father of the former editor-in-chief of the Telegram channel Nexta.

May 23, Ryanair airline plane crash-landed in Minsk due to a bomb threat, which was later not confirmed. Protasiewicz was on board the plane. After landing, the blogger and his Russian companion Sofia Sapega were detained.
