Russia extradited to Italy a wanted member of a mafia organization accused of extorting money from drivers. This was reported on February 13 by the press service of the RF Prosecutor General’s Office.
“The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation at the request of the Italian side extradited Vyacheslav Banu for criminal prosecution for participation in a mafia association, extortion and attempted extortion,” said the agency.
The accused, accompanied by a special convoy, was sent to Italy.
Banu from 2002 to 2011 participated in an armed transnational Mafia-type criminal organization that operated in several countries, including Italy. Its members were engaged in extortion of money. As part of the criminal network, Banu extorted money from car drivers and from the owner of a Moldovan transport company through threats and violence. The man set a price of €50 to €2060 for each car transport, parking in the parking lots controlled by the criminal organization, noted the General Prosecutor’s Office. In total, he is charged with 28 episodes.
In 2013, a court in Venice in the form of preventive detention was applied to Banu, he is wanted.
