Russia is not going to interfere in the U.S. elections

Russia does not intend to interfere and has never interfered in the U.S. presidential election before, said Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko on July 23.

“Whom to elect as president is the right of the American people. We have never interfered and will not interfere. And even if someone wanted to, it would be impossible to do that,” she said at a press conference broadcast by the Federation Council website.

Matvienko emphasized that Russia is ready to build mutually beneficial cooperation relations with any president of the United States.

“Whom the American people will choose, we will try to do our best to establish cooperation with the United States as a responsible state, as a responsible member of the international community, understanding the importance of such cooperation for the world, for stability, for people,” said the Chairman of the Federation Council.

According to her, Russian-American relations are important for ensuring global stability and security.

Matvienko said that the Russian side had hopes that with Donald Trump as the U.S. president there will be a chance to improve relations between the countries, but this has not happened.

“Russophobic moods were only getting stronger, many international treaties were destroyed,” she said.

The Councilwoman added that the actions of former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden – the pressure of Russophobia and calls for restraint of Russia – are nothing but attempts to escape from the solution of the pressing issues that the U.S. itself has and the answers to which Americans are waiting for.
