Scientists will study mysterious failures at sea

From a bird’s eye view, the Earth seems perfectly round but in fact it has many different mountains and hollows. Scientists have already studied volcanoes and water depths quite well, but some parts of our home planet are still unknown. These places include the so-called “blue holes” – underwater caves and vertical hollows that were formed millions of years ago. In the pictures, they look like dark blue circles near the coasts of the continents. Because they are underwater, they are still difficult for scientists to study. However, very soon, American researchers will begin exploring some of the most mysterious holes on the Florida coast. What can they find at a depth of several hundred meters?

What is a blue hole?

Although “blue holes” are difficult to study, there are already some interesting facts about them. According to scientists, these hollows were formed during the Ice Age, when the water level on our planet was 100-120 meters lower than now. Under the influence of heavy rains, loose limestone rocks were washed out and deep holes were formed in their places. After the glacial period, the once dry earth was again under water. These natural processes resulted in the formation of these most mysterious holes.

They should not be confused with the senates – the failures that were formed by the collapse of the vaults of limestone caves with underground water. Such natural formations are especially numerous on the Yucatan Peninsula, where once lived the Maya people. Civilization, whose history is still shrouded in mystery, used these formations for sacrifices. It was believed that these hollows were gates to the realm of the dead and that the water in them had magical properties. So, the senates are located on land, and the “blue holes” are under water and difficult to access.

Variety of animals.

According to scientists, these failures may be inhabited by living creatures unknown to science. After all, many fish may well live in conditions with high pressure and lack of sunlight. If you do not believe me, read my material about the most terrible fish of our planet – perhaps in the mysterious holes live just such monsters. And if you let your imagination go, you can assume that the mysterious “burrows” are inhabited by creatures that are currently considered fabulous.

And what, the ancient inhabitants of China were convinced that in the blue hole near the Paracel Islands lives a real dragon. According to legend, he is the lord of the underwater kingdom and once gave a superpower monkey magic wand. According to scientists, the so-called “Hole of the Dragon” is about 300 meters deep. But no fabulous creatures in it was not found – in the upper part of the lives of about 20 species of living organisms, and at a depth of more than 100 meters, no one. And that’s because scientists there didn’t find any oxygen at all.

A study of the sea depths

The depression near the Parasel Islands is already quite well studied, but there are still many similar objects on our planet. Take, for example, the hole called “Green Banana”, which is located on the coast of the American state of Florida. Its depth is estimated at 130 meters and it is clearly not worth to dive there without special equipment. In this regard, a group of several scientific organizations in the U.S. decided to conduct an expedition involving professional divers. They will try to find out what living organisms live in these waters, as well as measure the amount of nutrients it contains. According to the scientific publication Science Alert, the mission will be held in August 2020.

If everything goes smoothly, next year the researchers want to dive into the depths of the Amberjack Pit, which is also located off the coast of Florida. It’s slightly smaller than the aforementioned “Green Banana” – its depth is estimated to be about 72 meters. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which is the main sponsor of the study, these depths can be full of all kinds of animals. For example, shellfish, sea turtles and even sharks may live in them.

And the deepest place on Earth is still Mariana Trench, which is 10,028 metres deep. Recently in its depths were found poisonous to humans – you can read about it in a separate material.
