Carl Levin, a former senator from Michigan who also served as chairman of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, has died at the age of 87. The news was announced Friday, July 30, by the Levin Center press office at Wayne State University School of Law in Michigan.
“It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that the Levin family and the Levin Center at Wayne State University School of Law announce the passing of Senator Carl Levin, a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, and lifelong public servant,” the statement said.
The ex-senator’s funeral will be private.
Levin was a senator for 36 years, including 10 years as chairman of the Armed Services Committee. He retired in 2015.
