Senators asked Trump to investigate the incident with Navalny

US senators asked US President Donald Trump to investigate the incident with Russian blogger Alexei Navalny.

The letter was written by Jim Rish, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the U.S. Senate, and Robert Menendez, the Committee’s senior Democrat.

They noted that the case of Navalny was alarming, as the blogger was allegedly poisoned with the substance “Beginner”, which was used in the attack on former GRU colonel Sergei Skripal, convicted in Russia of spying for Great Britain.

“In that case your administration came to the conclusion that the Russian authorities were behind the attack, and this led to sanctions. The US should make it clear once again that any such behavior is unacceptable,” said a letter published on the US Senate website.

On September 22 US secretary of state Mike Pompeo stated that the USA will react to situation with Navalny after facts are known. He stressed that the Americans expect the results of the OPCW investigation to be published within one or two weeks.

At the same time, Trump did not answer journalists’ questions about who was responsible for what happened to Russian blogger Alexei Navalny.
