Armed men broke into Rio de Janeiro International Airport and fired on the runway trying to pick up the fallen balloon, Brazilian police said.
Law enforcers called the prank of the attackers bold.
“They used the boat to flee across Guanabara Bay after a shootout with police,” Globo reported July 21.
The incident took place on Tuesday night. According to the newspaper, an 18-metre balloon fell on the runway, which was followed by bandits. However, they could not take the balloon because airport security resisted.
Two participants in the incident have already been detained.
In Brazil, the launching of large balloons is prohibited, as they are dangerous to the environment and air travel.
