A Falcon 9 rocket with a cargo ship Cargo Dragon launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida. In addition to food and everything the astronauts need to work in space, the ship will deliver 100 juvenile luminous squid and 5,000 pacoderms to the International Space Station (ISS).
The choice of these living creatures is not accidental. The pacoderms have been called the toughest creatures on the planet. When threatened, whether by extreme temperatures or radiation, they go into deep hibernation. As for squids, their immune system resembles that of humans because of similar microflora.
Specialists aboard the ISS will observe the living organisms and analyze what effects being in space has on them.
Cargo Dragon is scheduled to dock with the ISS on Saturday, June 5.
