Surfer killed by a shark in California

A 26-year-old man died Saturday after being attacked by a shark while surfing off Santa Cruz, California.

The attack occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. local time, about a mile (1.6 km) south of Manresa State Beach, according to the Department of Parks and Recreation. According to the local sheriff’s office, the location is known as Sand Dollar Beach.

Surrounding sites have been closed for at least five days, according to established protocol.

The beaches are currently closed to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. due to the coronavirus pandemic. It is however allowed to go there for swimming, kayaking, surfing, … Sunbathing is forbidden.
