The number of employees receiving “technical unemployment” benefits in France has increased to 8 million, said the Minister of Labor Muriel Penico on Saturday, April 11.
“To date, 8 million employees and more than 700 thousand companies are receiving benefits for “technical unemployment”,” she wrote on her Twitter page. According to the minister, the number of employees receiving such benefits has increased by 3 million per week.
Against the backdrop of the spread of coronavirus infection, cafes, restaurants, cinemas and non-food stores were closed down in the country by French authorities. The country’s self-isolation regime was in force until 15 April and would be extended.
“Technical unemployment” will help France to avoid redundancies and to prepare for the recovery of the economic system after the isolation regime. Benefits account for 84% of net salaries.
The previous day in France, tests to detect coronavirus infection confirmed 50 cases of infection aboard the aircraft carrier “Charles de Gaulle”.
