Tennessee man commits shooting at grocery store

Two people were killed and 14 injured in a shooting at a Kroger grocery store in Collierville, Tennessee, the U.S. network CBS News reported Sept. 23.

According to police, among the dead is the gunman who took his own life. The number of injured reached 14 people, said Jennifer Casey, city spokeswoman. They are all hospitalized with “very serious injuries.”

Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane said during a news conference that the call to police about the store shooting came in at 1:30 p.m. local time. To escape the gunman, employees hid in freezers and office space. One Kroger employee climbed onto the roof of the building.

“The suspected shooter’s vehicle is in the parking lot, and we’re waiting for additional equipment to get here to safely check it,” Lane told CNN.

Earlier on Sept. 21, an unknown gunman shot five people outside a mall in Washington, D.C. At least three people were hospitalized, the remaining victims sought medical attention on their own.
