The decree of President Donald Trump prohibiting the issuance of work visas to foreign skilled workers in a number of areas was suspended in the United States. On Thursday, October 1, federal judge in San Francisco issued a private ruling, which stated that Trump exceeded his authority.
Trump issued this decree in June and it is valid till the end of 2020. The White House justified the order with high unemployment in the United States due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Trump’s ban applies to a number of work visas, including H-1B, which are issued to specialists in the field of high technology.
Technology and Internet companies in Silicon Valley, California, depend heavily on foreign specialists. About 85 thousand foreigners get H-1B visas annually. Therefore, a number of U.S. companies appealed Trump’s decree.
