The death toll from a hard landing by Air India’s Boeing-737 in Kozhikode, India, rose to 16 on Friday, August 7, the Hindustan Times reported.

Among the dead were both pilots, and more than 140 passengers were injured. In total there were 174 passengers, including 10 children and 6 crew members.

The flight was on its way to India from Dubai and made an emergency landing at Kozhikode Airport in Kerala. Prime Minister Narendra Maudie expressed condolences on the plane crash.

“I am in pain because of the plane crash in Kozhikode. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. Let the victims recover as soon as possible. I discussed the situation with Chief Minister Kerala Pinaraya Vijayan. The authorities are on the spot and are providing all necessary assistance to the victims,” he wrote on his Twitter account.
