At least 33 people have died as a result of flooding in Germany. This was reported on Thursday, July 15, the magazine Focus.
Earlier it was reported about 20 dead and dozens of missing. It is specified that the bodies of victims were found in different locations in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate.
According to N-tv channel, about 70 people were injured.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, in turn, expressed condolences to relatives and friends of the victims as a result of rampant natural disasters. This was stated by an official representative of the Cabinet of State of Germany Steffen Seibert in Twitter.
Merkel noted that she was “shocked by the disaster, which has made so many residents suffer in the areas affected by the flood.
Heavy rains have continued in the country since Monday, July 11, due to the action of Cyclone Bernd. The downpours have caused flooding. The main impact was on the western and southwestern regions of Germany, where rivers, including the Rhine, overflowed their banks and flooded the streets.
