The head of a news portal in Iran was sentenced to death

The head of Amad News portal Ruholla Zam, who is accused of cooperation with foreign intelligence, has been sentenced to death in Iran. This was reported by Tehran Times on Tuesday, June 30.

According to official representative of the Iranian Supreme Court Gholam Hosein Ismaili, this decision is not final and can be appealed.

Ruhollah Zama was detained in mid-October last year by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) for anti-revolutionary activities. According to local media, he is suspected of anti-government activities and cooperation with intelligence agencies of the United States, Israel and France.

The deputy actively covered the protest actions of December 2017 – January 2018 in Iran.

In February 2020, it was reported that the Iranian authorities sentenced Amir Rahimpur, suspected of spying for the United States, to death.

Also guilty of spying for the CIA were two employees of a charity foundation. They were sentenced to imprisonment. One of them received a ten-year sentence for espionage, the other five years for undermining national security. Their names aren’t named.
