The Lyon Public Prosecutors Office opened a case after the attack on the priest

The Lyon Public Prosecutor’s Office examines all versions of the assassination attempt on an Orthodox priest in Lyon, France. This was reported by its representatives on October 31.

“None of the versions about the motives for this attack is currently ruled out. We work closely with the National anti-terrorist prosecutor’s office”, – statement of the department.

Besides that, Lyon prosecutor’s office initiated a case about attempt on murder.

Earlier that day, an Orthodox priest was injured by gunfire in French Lyon. The fire was opened by an unknown man as the priest was closing the church.

The French Interior Ministry decided to open a crisis headquarters after the shooting near the Greek church in Lyon.

In the morning of 29 October in Nice, a man killed three people with a knife and wounded several members of Notre Dame Church. Besides that, in several French cities (Avignon, Lyon, Paris) police also prevented forthcoming attacks on citizens.

French President Emmanuelle Macron ordered to mobilize the military, strengthen security in churches and schools. He also assured that there were no problems with any religion in the country.

In mid-October, in a suburb of Paris, a man beheaded a history teacher at Samuel Pati College in Conflant-Honorin. One of the reasons of the incident was showing of cartoons of prophet Mohammed by a teacher during discussion of freedom of speech at lectures. The French government’s attack was seen as an ‘Islamist attack’.
