Twenty-three People Killed in Shootout in Rio de Janeiro

A shooting in Rio de Janeiro killed 23 people, including one police officer. According to G1, it happened during a police operation against drug trafficking in the Jacarezinho district.

Two train passengers and two police officers were also injured. Officer Andre Frias died of a head wound. It is assumed that the other 22 victims were members of a criminal gang.

As the portal notes, this was the highest number of casualties in a police operation since such statistics began to be kept in 2016.
