Twitter has banned animation in messages to keep epileptics safe

Twitter refused to use animated PNG images (APNG, Animated Portable Network Graphics). This is reported on the official account of the social network.

According to the service management, this measure will help protect Twitter users suffering from epilepsy. The ban concerns new tweets.

According to Twitter Support, social network developers have found a bug that allows you to bypass the settings of auto playback content in case of downloading files with animated PNG, as well as several similar images appeared in one tweet.

That is, even if a Twitter user disables the automatic playback function, he still sees the video in a specially prepared message to which an animated PNG file is attached, playback starts without warning.

Twitter is confident that this malfunction is helping attackers attack users with heightened sensitivity to moving and flickering images, including epileptic patients.
