Two Capitol cops sue Trump over Jan. 6 riots

Two police officers of the Capitol sued former U.S. President Donald Trump because of the injuries they suffered during the January 6 assault. This was reported on March 31 by CNN.

Police officers James Blessingham and Sidney Hamby said they suffered “physical and emotional injuries” during the January 6, 2021 riot, which they say was instigated by Trump and his supporters over their opposition to the results of the 2020 presidential election.

According to the police, Trump has been fueling “rebellious” sentiment among his supporters for months with claims of election fraud, leading to the storming of the Capitol.

The suit alleges that protesters used chemical sprays against police officers, causing burns to skin and mucous membranes. In addition, the lawsuit cites the emotional distress suffered by police officers on Jan. 6, which they say “continues to manifest.”

The police officers are seeking at least $75,000 each in damages.
