The United States declined Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposal to extend the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START-3). It was stated by White House national security adviser Robert O’Brien on Friday, October 16.

“Today’s answer of President Putin about extension of new START-3 without freezing of nuclear warheads is not an option”, – his words are given on the official page of US Security Council Twitter.

On the eve, Putin proposed to the U.S. to extend the existing treaty without additional conditions for a year and instructed Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to promptly prepare and formulate for Washington the position of Moscow on this agreement.

However, a few days ago, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the conclusion of agreements to extend the START Treaty is not yet expected.
