UN Secretary General António Guterres called on G20 leaders to lift sanctions that prevent the delivery of medicines, food and basic necessities to different countries due to the proliferation of coronavirus. This was reported on the UN website, published on Tuesday, March 24.
Such a step would help demonstrate solidarity with the peoples of the world, especially the most vulnerable, he said.
“This is a time of solidarity, not isolation.”
Guterres also noted that he welcomes the decision of the G20 to hold an online summit on the situation with coronavirus on March 26. The changes will also affect the global economy, and the world is waiting for the decision of the G20 leaders, he said. They now have an exceptional opportunity to take a step forward with a powerful response package to address various threats associated with the Coronavirus, the UN Secretary General said.
The situation requires unprecedented measures, a “wartime plan,” the diplomat said.
