Underwater volcano wakes up in Japan

Japan’s General Meteorological Office believes that an underwater volcano has erupted near the Ogasawara archipelago. This was reported Friday, August 13, agency Kyodo.

Meteorologists ask ships in the area to be cautious. The eruption was detected by meteorological satellite Himawari.

There is no information about any damage yet.

On Wednesday, August 11 Karymsky volcano in Kamchatka Region threw out an ash column 1.5 km high. According to experts, the plume is drifting 29 km southeast of the volcano. The plume has been assigned a code “orange” hazard for aviation.
