United States and NATO begin troop withdrawal from Afghanistan

The United States and NATO have begun the withdrawal of troops from some bases in Afghanistan. It was reported by RIA Novosti citing the commander of the US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, Scott Miller.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden said that the United States began to withdraw troops from Afghanistan on May 1. The withdrawal is to be completed on September 11. According to Jake Sullivan, the American assistant to the US President on National Security, the American servicemen will stay in Afghanistan after September 11 only to protect the embassy.

NATO also decided to start the withdrawal of troops by May 1.
