U.S. is concerned about the activity of members of the IG terrorist organization in southwest Syria. This was stated by the U.S. Special Representative for the Syrian Administrative Republic, James Jeffrey. This was reported by UrduPoint on Thursday, April 30.
“The activity of IG terrorists south of the Euphrates is the result of the fact that the army of [Syrian President Bashar] Assad is concentrated in the northwest of the country in the area of Idlib. The Syrian government army is short on other regions,” Jeffrey said.
He expressed concern about this and said that the U.S. has offered Russia cooperation in stabilizing the situation in southwest Syria.
On April 28, 40 people, 11 of them children, were killed in an explosion of a fuel tank in the northern Syrian city of Afriqin, populated by Kurds. A further 47 local residents were affected.
According to the Turkish Defence Ministry, the explosion was organized by supporters of the Kurdistan Workers Party (KWP), a recognized terrorist organization in Turkey.
