Van Gogh painting to be shown to the public for the first time since its creation

The Picture of the French painter Vincent van Gogh, which before that anywhere else not exhibited, will be sold at the auction Sotheby’s in Paris. Before the auction, it will be shown to the public in the French capital and also in Amsterdam and Hong Kong. It was announced on Wednesday, February 24, portal ARTnews.

“Street Scene in Montmartre” Van Gogh painted in 1887, at the time he was living in Paris with his brother Theo. The painting depicts one of the symbols of Montmartre – the windmill Moulin de la Galette. This work has been in a private collection since 1920.

“Very few Van Gogh paintings of the Montmartre period remain in private collections rather than in prestigious museum collections around the world. The appearance on the market of a work of this caliber from such a legendary series can no doubt be seen as a very significant event,” said Sotheby’s .

According to preliminary estimates, the value of the painting is € 5-8 million. The auction will be held March 25.
