Vietnamese authorities have announced that the city of Danang is closed to tourists due to the outbreak of a new type of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which has a higher infectious disease. This was reported on July 27 by the government portal of the republic.
In order to prevent the spread of infection, experts of the National Committee for Prevention and ControlCOVID-19 introduced a mandatory two-week quarantine for all citizens leaving Danang. It is noted that the Vietnamese Ministry of Health has sent specialists to the city to help its leadership contain the outbreak and identify the sources of infection as soon as possible.
The report states that according to the genome analysis, the variant of COVID-19 found in Danang is more infectious than the one known to science before.
According to Reuters, the city administration has decided to evacuate tourists on an emergency basis. In total, about 80 thousand people will be evacuated from Danang. Vietnam closed its borders for tourists back in March, so the city is now mainly visited by tourists from other regions of the country. Special flights have been organized for their evacuation.
Due to the worsening epidemiological situation in Danang, the Russian Embassy also recommended the Russians living in the republic to refuse to travel to the central regions of Vietnam.
“In connection with the new cases of coronavirus detected in the central part of Vietnam, the Russian embassy strongly recommends to observe the relevant preventive measures, follow the instructions of local authorities and refrain from travelling to these regions,” the diplomatic mission wrote on its Facebook page.
In the past 24 hours, four cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Danang and its surroundings. This is a significant number for a country where, according to Worldometer, 431 people have been identified as infected since the outbreak began. In addition, the cases were the first to be detected since April 16.
