World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebrejesus said at a briefing in Geneva on 27 July that the coronavirus pandemic is growing worldwide.
“WHO has received reports of almost 16 million cases and more than 640,000 deaths,” Ghebrejesus said.
He said the number of cases had almost doubled in the past six weeks. The previous day, the WHO reported that the daily increase in patients with COVID-19 exceeded 200 thousand.
A few weeks ago, Ghebrejesus reported that coronavirus infection would continue to spread if basic rules for the pandemic were not followed.
He also stressed that many states had gone in the wrong direction in the fight against coronavirus, but refrained from listing specific country examples.
