The World Health Organization (WHO) will carefully study the publication of Chinese scientists on a new type of swine flu. This was announced at a briefing on Tuesday, June 30, by WHO spokesman Christian Lindmaier.

“We will take all necessary measures to prevent the spread of any virus,” the Hindustan Times quoted him as saying.

Lindmeyer also added that in this situation it is necessary to continue monitoring animal populations.

Earlier that day, the American scientific journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences published a study according to which Chinese scientists discovered a new strain of swine flu that could cause a new pandemic.

It was noted that in the period from 2011 to 2018 in China were observed the influenza virus in pigs – during this time it was possible to identify a number of pathogens of swine flu. Among them, a new strain, G4 EA H1N1, was detected, which also has genes of the H1N1 virus that caused the 2009 pandemic.
