WSJ draws attention to serious illness of Wuhan scientists in 2019

The serious illness of three scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China in 2019 may indicate that the theory of the artificial origin of the SARS-COV-2 coronavirus is true. The Wall Street Journal reported this on Sunday, May 23.

According to the newspaper, the disease was “so severe” that the researchers were forced to undergo treatment in hospital. At the same time, the journalists noted the “similarity of some of the symptoms” of the disease to seasonal flu.

The article notes that this data can be extremely important in the study of the origin of the virus. At the same time the information about the exact number of people infected with the virus appeared just before the World Health Assembly that was to open on May 24 and whose members would discuss the fight against the pandemic.

Commenting on the information, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that “the US keeps spinning the laboratory leak theory”. The ministry wondered whether the US was really so concerned about tracing the source or “trying to divert attention in this way.”

On May 20, the U.S. House Intelligence Committee reported “circumstantial evidence” to support information that the coronavirus leak came from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

The U.S. representatives cited information that back in 2017, China had warned U.S. diplomats that the Wuhan lab was engaged in “dangerous coronavirus research without complying with mandatory security protocols.” Among other things, scientists involved in developing the virus were seen in 2019 with symptoms now seen in coronavirus infections.

On January 3, Matthew Pottinger, deputy advisor to former U.S. President Donald Trump, said that a coronavirus pandemic could have arisen from a leak from a Chinese laboratory. According to him, this version is “the most credible.

In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying stressed that Chinese scientists have also repeatedly denied this information, and American journalists even visited the Wuhan Institute of Virology, where they received a detailed explanation of the situation with the coronavirus.

In addition, she said, Chinese media have repeatedly cited figures and facts refuting claims of coronavirus leakage from the laboratory. U.S. scientists have also stated that the coronavirus is of natural origin.
